Job Description

Background

Change Agents UK will for this coming winter be delivering Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council’s home energy advice visits. Dudley have a well-developed network of partners who all feed referrals into a central “hub”, offering support to those most vulnerable to rising fuel prices. If a resident is thought to require a home visit, the referrals will be fed through to Change Agents UK, who will act swiftly to reduce their energy bills as much as possible in one visit. Visits will include ensuring residents are on the correct tariffs and benefitting from the warm home discount, through to teaching people to better manage their energy use for heating and appliances. All members of staff will strive to save on average £230 in each property visited.

Objective

Working closely with Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council and the home energy advice team to deliver energy audits in people’s homes and advice to the public. This role is vital to ensure that those most vulnerable have access to bespoke home energy advice and an audit to ensure affordable warmth.

Although candidates who have already completed a City and Guilds level 3 qualification in Energy Awareness are preferred, those without have the opportunity to complete this paid for by Change Agents UK.

Responsibilities

Outputs and Key Tasks

Outputs

  1. Deliver high quality and effective energy audits within 10 days of referral being made.

  2. Provide advice to householders to reduce their yearly spend on energy bills by an average of approximately £230.

  3. Provide assistance to the Senior Energy & Fuel Poverty Officer to ensure that all data from visits and their outcomes is collected in a timely manner.

Key Tasks

  1. Organising, booking and delivering household audits, including follow up support and advice for householders.

  2. Refer / signpost householders to external funding for infrastructural work such as loft and cavity wall insulation.

  3. Organising and communicating with stakeholders, local organisations and community groups to support and expand a fuel poverty network; support training and other raising awareness events, as directed by their local manager.

  4. Write press material for any promotion of the energy issues within the local area and liaise with their manager to ensure a consistent campaign across Dudley.

  5. Work closely with their fellow team members and participate fully in all supervision sessions, in team meetings/presentations and other training events.

  6. Ensuring that all records are completed according to the required procedures.

Personal Specification

Essential

  1. Candidate holds a full driving licence and have access to a car insured for business purposes or access to a vehicle insured for business use and driver/assistance.

  2. Willingness to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

  3. Good communication and community engagement skills showing empathy and understanding of the householders needs.

  4. Knowledge, background and interest in energy efficiency in the home whether this be paid, unpaid or voluntary experience.

  5. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to keep accurate and up-to-date records of progress and work to deadlines and targets.

  6. Ability to project manage effectively and prioritise tasks in a busy schedule.

  7. Ability to work under own initiative and individually coming up with creative and effective solutions to problems.

  8. Good IT skills and ability to use software to complete the project outcomes and evaluation.

  9. Must be available for NEA City and Guilds Level 3 Energy Awareness Training for either of the following course dates:-

    • 22nd – 24th November and 30th November or 1st December; or

    • 29th November – 1st December and 7th or 8th December.

Desirable

  1. Experience and understanding of local government and multi-agency partnerships.

  2. Domestic energy efficiency qualification such as City and Guilds Level 3 in Energy Awareness preferred.
