Dr. Ian Paton

Ian Paton has over 30 years of experience within waste and wastewater management specialising in their treatment and reuse as products such as composts, animal feed and solid recovered fuels. Ian was Technical Advisor on two successful Private Finance Initiative (PFI) bids leading to 25 year contracts for dealing with household waste; he has also acted in general consultancy and technology development for private companies and government organisations. In the latter capacity he was Policy Advisor to the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP) during the development of the Standards for Composts scheme (PAS100). He has worked within the Higher Education sector in the design and management of laboratory based electro-chemical water treatment for landfill leachate and the progression of this to its implementation in pilot plants formed the basis for his PhD. At present Dr Paton runs a company providing specialist training for the waste and wastewater industries using both private and government funded schemes. Recently he has developed and run workshops abroad on waste and wastewater treatment and management in collaboration with De Montfort University.
Ian has published a number peer reviewed papers and supervised MSc projects; he is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), a Chartered Chemist (CChem) and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Faculty of Technology at De Montfort University.
