Sustainability Strategy Support Officer


YHA (England and Wales)

Location:                   Flexible, with c. 1 days per week in Matlock Head Office and UK-wide travel opportunities

Duration:                   8 weeks.
                                  Candidate must be available to start w/c 10th February.
                                  Potential for extension or longer-term contract, subject to funding and performance.

Salary:                      £25,000 pa pro rata

Working hours:        37.5 hours per week

Reporting to:            Luke Blewett, Head of Safeguarding, Safety, Health, Environment & Quality, YHA

Are you:

  • A graduate with a strong academic background in an environmental discipline and a sound understanding of the sustainable development goals (SDGs)?

  • Knowledgeable/experienced in the development of environmental strategy and/or environmental management systems (EMS)?

  • Able to undertake carbon monitoring assessments?

  • Passionate about sustainability and an enthusiastic self-starter?

  • Articulate, engaging and pragmatic in your approach?

  • Highly numerate and able to analyse and interpret data?

  • Focused on identifying and delivering practical and tangible positive changes?


Opportunity background:

This 8-week Change Agents UK short-term placement will be based with the Youth Hostel Association (YHA), helping to drive the creation of their 2020 sustainability and environmental strategy. The YHA is a large established charity that seeks to transform young lives; their mission is to inspire all, especially young people, to broaden their horizons, gaining knowledge and independence through new experiences of adventure and discovery. The YHA seek to work with others who share their vision and values. This is a superb opportunity for an outstanding graduate with a strong understanding and working knowledge of environmental strategy and management systems to work with a progressive major organisation to deliver real and meaningful positive change. A longer-term opportunity may be available for the right candidate and full support from the expert team at Change Agents UK will be available throughout this placement.
