A big welcome to Root and Branch Out!

We are pleased to welcome the Community Fridge, run by Root and Branch Out, from their previous venue on Mill Street to our premises at Oakham Railway Station. At Change Agents UK we take pride in supporting projects that resonate with our mission statement, engaging with individuals and organisations to work towards a more sustainable future, therefore we are more than pleased to have a part in aiding The Community Fridge with their future work.

Who are Root and Branch Out?

Root and Branch Out is a Community Interest Company set up by a group of individuals who have a passion for nature, the outdoors and sustainability. Root and Branch Out run a wide variety of projects and educational programs that help to engage with local communities by sharing knowledge and skills, strengthening the community and raising awareness of sustainability to bring about positive change. Funding received during 2020 from the Community Foundation’s Coronavirus Support Fund made it possible to launch a project that aids families who were greatly affected by the pandemic, this is now known as The Community Fridge.

What is the Community Fridge?

The Community Fridge is an active service offered in Oakham and Uppingham once a week. Root and Branch Out collect excess food from local supermarkets and local pubs and cafes to be available to the community, that otherwise would have been heading to a landfill as waste.

Between October 2020 and April 2022 The Community Fridge at Oakham and Uppingham has had vast success saving 11 tonnes of food from going to landfill. We are thrilled that in its first week at the new Oakham venue a weighty 79,720g worth of food was prevented from becoming waste!

Where is the Community Fridge located and When Does it Open?

Everyone and anyone is welcome to head down to The Community Fridge, which is open at Oakham Railway Station on Fridays between 10:00am – 11:30am and at the Town Hall in Uppingham between 1:30pm – 3:00pm.

We look forward to being part of the future of The Community Fridge and the positive impact they have on the environment and the local community.
