Development Manager

Always a bit of an eco-geek having grown up in rural Dorset, I set about my career with a degree in Geography from the University of Sheffield. At the time I think I thought this was more of a ploy to explore the north rather than necessarily where I thought my career would be heading!

Returning home I taught English as a foreign language, worked a plethora of bar jobs and eventually had the chance to spend 9 months living and working in Uganda on environmental engagement programmes. Realising I was not a scientist but instead loved understanding the links between people, environment and society, I set about an MA in International Development and Education at UEA. Stumbling upon Change Agents UK after my MA, I spent 3 years recruiting, training and supporting graduates in their first jobs in the education sector.

For the last 8 years I have been heading up the Green Impact programme team and a wide variety of behaviour change projects at the National Union of Students, developing strategies, budgets and partnerships to engage as many people as possible in making positive change. My role took me to Australia and the USA, from one day chatting to students about recycling to the next engaging Vice Chancellors in enacting change across whole campuses.

I took a cheeky sabbatical a few years ago to lead the Discovering Britain project at the Royal Geographical Society (got to love geography!), and now I find myself taking a career break and taking the opportunity to work again with Change Agents UK. It’s exciting to be back and to apply what I’ve learned to develop new ways of working and create change through possible new partnerships.
