Carbon Literacy - What it is and why your whole team needs it...

So what is Carbon Literacy?

The Carbon Literacy Project defines Carbon Literacy® as “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

It "enables individuals, communities, and organisations to take impactful climate action and enact the cultural shift necessary for the transition to a low-carbon economy."

Why does my team and organisation need this training?

There are many reasons why undertaking team and organisation wide Carbon Literacy is beneficial. Here are some reasons we think are important:

• Undertaking this training can encourage individual employees to take action and reduce carbon where they can, even if they aren't in a green focused role. This can be a great way to engage staff to take action in a meaningful and productive way. Over time, a culture shift can be seen whereby staff are not only mandated to make carbon savings but they are motivated to!

  
  

• Your organisation can save money! Not only will behaviour changes cut carbon, it will also reduce costs for the organisation through saved resources.

  
  

• You can set a good example for your customers and even competitors. Undertaking Carbon Literacy training is great as it is formally accredited by the Carbon Literacy Project. Demonstrating your committment to cutting carbon can be a great way to improve the perception of your business.

How long is the training and can it be tailored?

Carbon Literacy training needs to last at least a day. At Change Agents we usually host 2 half days of training if we're hosting online training or 1 full day if in person.

The training can be tailored and adapted to ensure it is relevant to your sector and business. It's not a one size fits all approach here!
