We’re delighted to announce that Change Agents UK has once again achieved Green Level Accreditation with Investors in the Environment (iiE), earning an impressive score of 89%. This recognition reflects our continued commitment to reducing our environmental impact and inspiring others to do the same.
In 2024, we achieved an 18% reduction in our overall carbon emissions, with big wins including a 37% drop in electricity use and an 11% reduction in gas usage. However, the year wasn’t without challenges, especially concerning our business travel. Nonetheless, we are working hard to address this as well as considering how we can maximise our positive impact too.
Cutting Waste to the Core
Change Agents is a mostly remote organisation, but we do have a small office in Oakham Train Station, Rutland. However, increasingly we have used the office less, as we focus on a remote first policy for our training and recruitment services, resulting in us having little to no waste to dispose of. This led us to consider how we could further our ambitions to reduce waste using our influence – this year we plan to run a Zero Waste Week with our staff to inspire further waste cuts while they work from home.
Business Travel Conundrum
While we’ve increased our use of alternative travel methods, overall transport emissions rose in 2024. To tackle this, we are considering how we track journeys moving from simply measuring totals to understanding the proportion of travel done by public transport, cycling, or car-sharing. This will help us set smarter targets, reduce car use, and explore new ideas such as a staff “low-carbon travel challenge” and expanding remote-first event delivery.
Looking Ahead
We’re proud of our achievements, but our next chapter is about going further. By working with our communities, stakeholders, and clients, we will multiply our impact well beyond our office walls (at home and in Oakham!). With our renewed focus on smarter travel choices, we are determined to turn these challenges into moments of positive wider influence.
