Greenwashing
Hi @Everyone, we hope you enjoyed the Greenwashing session today. For those that couldn't make it, or if you would like to listen again, the session recording is now available on the 'Summary Notes' section for the session. A few things to share from the session:
Force of nature Force of Nature | Mobilising mindsets for climate action
Info on Black Rock and greenwashing: We're taking action against investment company BlackRock for greenwashing | ClientEarth
Cases of companies being charged for greenwashing: 10 Companies Called Out For Greenwashing | Earth.Org
Information on offsetting (thank you to Maddie): Brief overview of SBTi's - Offsetting.pdf
We had some discussion around why social washing is increasing at a slower rate than greenwashing. I couldn't find a definitive answer for this but from our discussion we could say this is because people are getting increasingly interested in sustainability but not about human rights - companies are jumping on to advertise green initiatives because it's in the market interest, the social sides of it people just don't ask about. Here is an article with more info: What is Social Washing? - ESG | The Report
Remember these posts are your place to share any ideas or thoughts you had from the session. Feel free to share anything that you find useful, interesting or thought-provoking.
Hi, thank you for all the links. For some reason I can't open the Brief overview of SBTi's - Offsetting.pdf
This was a really useful session. It also helped me nuance my understanding of green hushing. Thank you.
